1. How to Spot the Issue

When you click the padlock (🔒) or blue camera icon next to the address bar, the pop-up should look like this:

but sometimes it looks like this (pay attention to the Notifications area)!

…and there’s no drop-down menu to switch Notifications to Allow. As a result, you are unable to start your interview.

2. Why Chrome Blocks the Toggle

Chrome lets a site request notifications only when all three layers below say “yes.”
If any layer blocks them, the option stays greyed-out.

Layer

Where to check

Typical wording

1. Operating system (macOS / Windows)

System Settings → Notifications

Notifications disabled for Chrome

2. Chrome global setting

chrome://settings/content/notifications

“Sites can ask to send notifications” = OFF

3. Site-specific setting

Padlock / blue camera → Site settings

“Block” selected for this site

3. Quick-Fix Checklist (2 minutes)

  1. Turn on notifications at the OS level
    macOS →  Menu › System Settings › Notifications › Chrome › Allow
Windows 10/11Settings › System › Notifications › switch Chrome ON

  2. Allow sites to ask in Chrome

    1. Copy-paste chrome://settings/content/notifications into the address bar.

    2. Toggle Sites can ask to send notifications to ON.

    3. (Optional) Turn off Use quieter messaging while testing.

  3. Reload your Kerplunk tab (hold ⌘ ⇧ R on Mac or Ctrl ⇧ R on Windows for a hard refresh).

  4. Click Allow when Chrome prompts you.

4. Step-by-Step Guide

A. Operating-System Block (most common)

  1. Quit Chrome.

  2. Follow Step 1 above to enable notifications for Chrome in System / Settings.

  3. Re-open Chrome, navigate back to dashboard.kerplunk.com, reload, and click Allow.

B. Chrome Global Block

  1. Open chrome://settings/content/notifications.

  2. Toggle Sites can ask… ON.

  3. Reload the Kerplunk tab and approve the prompt.

C. Site Was Manually Blocked

  1. Click the padlock or blue camera icon → Site settings.

  2. Change Notifications from Block to Allow.

  3. Refresh the page.

D. Using Incognito?

Notification permissions can’t be saved in Incognito windows. Open the interview link in a normal tab and repeat the steps above.

5. Last step!

  • Do a hard refresh (⌘ +Shift + R) after every change.

  • Restart Chrome if the prompt still doesn’t appear.

  • If you’re on a company-managed computer, your IT department may have a policy that blocks notifications. Ask them to allow push notifications for dashboard.kerplunk.com.
