Enabling Browser Notifications in Safari on macOS

If you're unable to start your 1-way video interview, it may be because Safari isn’t allowed to send notifications.

1. How to Spot the Issue

You may see a message like:
“Safari can’t show notifications because they are turned off.”
Or the interview may not load as expected and prompt you to enable notifications.

2. Why Safari Blocks the Prompt

Safari, like Chrome, checks a few levels before showing a notification prompt. If any of the following are blocked, you won't see the option:

Layer

Where to check

Typical wording / Fix

macOS Notification Settings

 Menu → System Settings → Notifications → Safari

Make sure Allow Notifications is ON

Safari Website Settings

Safari → Settings for This Website

Set Notifications to “Allow”

Safari Preferences (Global)

Safari → Settings → Websites → Notifications

Ensure “Ask” is selected and the Kerplunk site is not blocked

3. Quick-Fix Checklist (2 minutes)

Step 1: Turn on macOS Notifications for Safari

  • Go to  Menu → System Settings → Notifications

  • Scroll down and click Safari

  • Set Allow Notifications to ON

Step 2: Update Safari Website Settings

  • Open your interview link in Safari

  • Right-click the address bar or go to Safari → Settings for This Website

  • Set Notifications: Allow

Step 3: Review Global Safari Settings

  • Open Safari → Settings → Websites → Notifications

  • Find dashboard.kerplunk.com in the list

  • If it says Deny, change it to Allow

Step 4: Hard Refresh the Page

  • Press Command (⌘) + Shift + R to reload the interview page

4. Using Private Browsing Mode?

Safari won’t remember notification permissions in Private windows.
Open the link in a regular Safari window and follow the steps above.
