Enabling Browser Notifications in Microsoft Edge

If you are unable to start your 1-way video interview, it may be because notifications are disabled in Microsoft Edge.

1. How to Spot the Issue

Click the padlock icon (🔒) in the address bar when you're on the interview page. You might see something like this:

![Example of Notification Blocked in Edge]

If Notifications says “Blocked” or doesn’t give you an option to Allow, then Edge is preventing the interview from starting.

2. Why Edge Blocks the Toggle

Like Chrome and Safari, Edge requires three layers to allow notifications. If any of them are disabled, the site cannot show the prompt.

What to look for

Operating system

Windows Settings → System → Notifications

Notifications turned off for Microsoft Edge

Edge global notification setting

Site-specific setting

Click the padlock → Site Permissions

3. Quick-Fix Checklist (2 minutes)

Enable OS-level Notifications

  • Go to Start → Settings → System → Notifications

  • Scroll down to Microsoft Edge

  • Set Notifications = ON

Enable Notification Requests in Edge

  • Paste this into the Edge address bar:
    edge://settings/content/notifications

  • Make sure "Ask before sending (recommended)" is ON

  • Optional: Turn off “Use quieter messaging” during testing

Allow Kerplunk Notifications

  • Go to your Kerplunk interview link

  • Click the padlock icon (🔒) to the left of the URL

  • Click Permissions for this site

  • Set Notifications = Allow

  • Refresh the page

4. Step-by-Step Guide

A. Operating System Block

  1. Quit Edge completely

  2. Open Start → Settings → System → Notifications

  3. Enable Notifications for Microsoft Edge

  4. Reopen Edge, go to dashboard.kerplunk.com, refresh the page, and click Allow

B. Global Edge Setting

  1. Go to edge://settings/content/notifications

  2. Toggle Ask before sending (recommended) to ON

  3. Reload the Kerplunk tab

C. Site Was Manually Blocked

  1. Visit the Kerplunk interview link

  2. Click the padlock iconPermissions for this site

  3. Change Notifications from Block to Allow

  4. Refresh the page

5. Using InPrivate Mode?

Edge does not save notification permissions in InPrivate (Incognito) windows.
Make sure you’re using a normal Edge window and repeat the steps above.

6. Last Step!

Do a hard refresh:

  • Ctrl + Shift + R on Windows

  • This forces Edge to reload the latest permissions

If the prompt still doesn’t appear, restart Edge. If you're using a work or school device, your organization's IT team may have policies that prevent notifications. Ask them to allow push notifications for dashboard.kerplunk.com.
